2025 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship, Abuja Nigeria
Over 400 athletes from 20 African nations converged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria, for the 14th African Armwrestling Championship, a key qualifier for the 2025 World Championship in Bulgaria. The event, which was held between 23rd - 27th July 2025, showcased not just strength and competition but unity, inclusion, and national pride
The championship was widely praised for its high energy, lively crowd turnout, and improved organisational standards, setting the stage for Accra 2026. Member nations including Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and Benin Republic are now expected to battle fiercely in Accra as the competition doubles as the pathway to the 2027 African Games
Nigeria fielded its largest-ever squad of 172 athletes, with Team Nigeria emerging overall champions after winning 28 gold, 35 silver, and 38 bronze medals across male, female, and para categories. Ghana and Benin followed in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively
The Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) and the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF) organised the championship under the leadership of NAWF President Engr. Samuel Olatunji Jackson
